A few weeks ago, the Creator completed a project that combined two of his long-term endeavors: inventing golems to perform tasks out under the open skies so living folk don't have to; and experimenting with the potential applications for the ore obtained from the meteors that so threaten the world. This project was a golem designed to hunt game - strike out into the wilds and stalk, kill and prepare meat for the people cowering beneath thin roofs - with skystuff metal incorporated into its structure. The Creator named the golem SkyHunterDelta, or SHD. It was built for hunting: long legs for speed, long, strong arms for drawing a bow, big sharp eyes, excellent hearing devices. For a few weeks, by all appearances the experiment was a success. SHD left every day, and every day returned with fresh meat. One day, the Creator followed it on its stalk, for quality control purposes. What he saw puzzled him. It stalked a deer, it shot it with unerring accuracy and deadliness, and it gutted and skinned it with skill. And yet... it stalked for a little too long, at times appearing to study it long after it had a clear shot. It studied other things around it, as well. The gutting of the beast seemed more like a discection than practical evisceration. It appeared to be exhibiting...curiosity. A few experiments later, the Creator's suspicions were confirmed. SHD was sentient. Feeling himself an inadequate parent, he gave his creation a quick, rudimentary education, equipped it with everything it will need in the world, remodelled its face to better suit a feeling being, and is preparing to send it out in the world to forge its own destiny with a brand new name: DB-16, for Drawingboard #16 (he likes to keep track of his failures, as well as his successes). Moderate Strength: The ability to draw a powerful bow and carry carcasses was important in its construction, but could not come at the expense of fast movement. High Dexterity: Built for speed, stealth and accuracy at range. Moderate Constitution: Ionno. It's a construct. It worked. Moderate Intelligence: DB-16 is quick and inquisitive, but has only a rudimentary education. Moderate Wisdom: It has a good awareness of its surroundings, excellent senses and a good understanding of nature, but has no comprehension of the subtleties of other creatures' minds, empathy, or deception. It will always take anything and anyone at face value. Low Charisma: DB-16 is brand new. It has no conception of its place in the world, all-too-keen awareness of its own newness and naivity, no understanding of emotion or the feelings or thoughts of others. DB-16's bow is its most important asset, and accordingly is its most impressive. It is carved from dragonbone especially for it, for greater range. It has a range of ammunition, for greater versatility. It uses its spear for close combat and to kill downed prey. The dagger is mostly for general tasks, such as gutting. The Creator installed a Repair Button to allow DB-16 to repair itself on the hunt. Favoured enemy (animals) cuz, well, it's a hunter.
