Davina grew up as the third daughter of a noble family that already had plenty of girls. She was mostly ignored by her parents, and so was mostly ignored by the staff and servants of the family manor. She grew up wandering the house alone, making games of climbing and hide-and-seek with imaginary friends. She paid only sporadic attention to her lessons in writing and arithmetic, until she discovered books. Davina quickly became a devotee of trashy adventure books, the sort that no respectable noblewoman would be caught reading. She was especially fascinated by the stories of acrobat-thieves, who used their agility to steal from the undeserving. As Davina grew older, she became bored with the manor and its lack of adventure and excitement. She decided to leave home and travel the world, become one of the great acrobats or legendary heroes that she had read about. On her eighteenth birthday she left a note for her family and began her quest for fame and glory. Unfortunately, her sheltered upbringing had left her with few real skills and no idea to handle money. Now aged nineteen, she works as a translator and scribe around Sasserine for whoever will pay her just to keep herself fed. Two weeks ago her scribing career came to an end. Her latest employer gave her half the contract fee he had promised, and said she could \'earn the rest\'. Beating up an unarmed merchant (and his two bodyguards) is not a recommended activity in Sasserine, even if you\'ve been cheated. It led to Davina\'s first experience of a holding cell. The fine levied by the judge wiped out her meagre savings, and now all the merchants of Sasserine are refusing to hire her. Her economic future looks bleak. Davina still has difficulty dealing with other people. She keeps her mouth shut and never says anything unless she has to, but underneath her reserve she is desperate for company and friendship. Although she still has dreams of becoming a great hero (or notorious thief), she is not really a good person; she sees heroism (or possibly thievery) as a means to an end, to become famous and glorified. Part of this stems from a desire to be noticed by her uninterested family, but her year of travel has given her an even fiercer drive to carve out a niche in the world that seems to have no place for her. Description: A lean young woman of average height, in leather armour. A rapier and a light crossbow are strapped to her back. Her black hair is short, and has obviously been cut by a knife without benefit of a mirror. She is not really pretty, or even attractive, but her sharp cheekbones and beaky nose make her distinctive.
